The Event
Successfully running for 41 years, the Friends of Montefiore lunch supports Jewish Care's aged care and general services, while also providing a great opportunity to meet friends and hear from engaging guest speakers. This year the event is raising funds for Jewish Care's Mental Health Support Program.

Nova Peris became the first Aboriginal and Northern Territorian to win an Olympic Gold Medal when she was a member of the victorious Hockeyroos in Atlanta 1996. She also became the first Mother to be a gold medallist for Australia since Shirley Strickland in 1956.
Nova Peris is one of few athletes who have represented their country in two different sports; hockey and athletics, and separate Olympic Games, Atlanta 1996 & Sydney 2000. She remains the only person in the entire world to make back-to-back Summer Olympic Games finals in two different sports!
In 2013, Nova Peris became the first Aboriginal Woman elected to Federal Parliament, her maiden speech highlighted the struggles facing Aboriginal people as well as her own unique life journey. As the first of many speeches Nova gave during her time in the Senate, hers was a strong, determined voice of an emerging leader who envisioned great things for her people. More recently Nova was honoured with a 2.6m bronze statue unveiled in Fed Square, Melbourne and was inducted into the Australian Sports Hall of Fame. Nova has now set up her charity; The Nova Peris Foundation, where she is concentrating on Food Security and micro-business enterprise in Remote Aboriginal Communities, leading to self-determination.
