Successfully running for 42 years, the New Friends of Monte lunch supports Jewish Care's aged care and general services, while also providing a great opportunity to meet friends and hear from engaging guest speakers.
This year we are fortunate to have a panel of speakers who will discuss the Australian media landscape in an age of anti-semitism.
Moderator
Lahra Carey
Lahra Carey is a former journalist who now works as an experienced communications strategist, crisis manager and media trainer. After a decade as a radio and television reporter at the ABC, she started a consulting career working at both multinational and local PR agencies. Lahra is the founder of communications consultancy narrative, as well as NewsFlash Media.
Zara Cooper
Zara Cooper is the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Defence and the woman behind the Clammy Fraud Instagram account. A corporate lawyer by background Zara's body of work involves championing improved online safety in Australia through policy and legislative reform as well as enhancing platform accountability and tackling misinformation through education and campaigns for social change.
Cameron Stewart
Cameron Stewart is the Chief International Correspondent at The Australian, combining investigative reporting on foreign affairs, defence and national security with feature writing for the Weekend Australian Magazine. He was previously the paper's Washington Correspondent covering North America from 2017 until early 2021. He was also the New York correspondent during the late 1990s. Cameron is a former winner of the Graham Perkin Award for Australian Journalist of the Year.
Carly Douglas
Carly Douglas is a state political reporter at the Herald Sun. Prior to starting at News Corp in 2022, she worked as a reporter at The Australian Jewish News. Since October 7, Carly has published a series of exclusive interviews with Israelis and Australians impacted by the terror attack, including breaking the story of the only Australian killed during Hamas' barbaric massacre, beloved grandmother Galit Carbone. She has shared the heartbreaking stories of multiple survivors and has consistently reported on the rise in antisemitism around Australia, particularly in Melbourne, including the anger directed at both the Allan and Albanese governments.
