A place to call home
Jewish Care believes that it is a basic human right for every person to have a safe, affordable and secure place to call home.
Jewish Care’s Housing Support team advocate for people in the Victorian Jewish community in need of accommodation, and can assist individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties to identify and access affordable accommodation alternatives.
We can provide:
- Timely information and advice about housing options across the private, community and public housing systems
- Support to access short-term and/or permanent accommodation for eligible adults, families and older people from within Jewish Care housing stock or via our partner agencies
- Assistance with the lodging of documents and liaison with government departments and housing providers
- Facilitation of supportive referrals to other Jewish Care program areas and external services as relevant.
We understand the particular cultural, religious and communal needs of the Victorian Jewish community, including those of Holocaust survivors. We also collaborate with other local housing providers to increase their understanding of the needs of Jewish renters.
We know that for those experiencing complex life challenges, housing alone is often insufficient. Our Housing program works in collaboration with the Social Work team to ensure that people with multiple needs are supported to sustain their tenancy and manage a range of complex issues. Integration with other programs including Financial Support Services, Employment Services and In-home Services also occurs as needed.
Jewish Care’s Housing Support service is free, while rent fees are calculated using a social housing model.
