Cultural and Spiritual Support Services
The Jewish Life team provides information and support to all Jewish Care staff in relation to Jewish cultural and religious observance.
This is facilitated through an ethos day, staff education sessions and a range of programs and events surrounding Jewish festivals and holy days. Learning lunches are held prior to or during all major Jewish festivals and holy days, with diverse speakers from throughout the community and with culturally specific food. For more information see Jewish Calendar.
Information relating to the Jewish Culture and religious observances can be found in the Jewish Care Ethos Staff Handbook.
The team also provides cultural and spiritual programs to our elders and clients, celebrating and commemorating all important days in the Jewish calendar.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care is a person-centred, holistic approach to caring for clients that compliments the care offered by other helping disciplines while paying particular attention to spiritual care. The focus of pastoral care is the healing, guiding, supporting, nurturing, liberating and empowering of our elders and clients.
Our team of rabbis and program coordinators are well trained and experienced in the delivery of Pastoral Care. A significant amount of time is spent each week with our elders living in Residential Aged Care and our clients living in Disability Service's supportive accommodations.
End of life & Bereavement Support
Jewish Care Rabbis are available to perform funerals and minyan services. Our staff members are happy to facilitate spiritual and religious support though external agencies and nominated individuals by request. This is discussed with each of our elders during the admission or intake stage and followed up on a regular basis.
Religious Services
The Jewish Life team provides regular Shabbat and festival synagogue services for Jewish Care's clients, elders, family members and guests at all of Jewish Care's three Residential Aged Care homes. These services are followed by a weekly Kiddush. The Jewish Life team also prepares weekly Shul newsletters which are specific to each home. These newsletters are distributed in hard copy and are emailed to staff and NOK. Our GM, Rabbi Genende, also emails out a weekly column titled, "Rabbi Ralph Keeps Connected - Lessons for Living."
Kosher Supervision
The provision of kosher food is one of Jewish Care's points of difference. All kitchens within Residential Aged Care and Active Living Services are kosher, and our rabbis conduct daily audits to ensure their kashrut integrity. Our team also conducts kosher workshops for staff, oversees the kosher supervision of our cafes, and facilitates the unique kosher requirements prior to the holy days of Passover.
All Things Equal (ATE) Cafe at Windsor is under the supervision of Kosher Australia.
