Out of an abundance of caution, Jewish Care instigated a precautionary lockdown at Gary Smorgon House (GSH) on 31 May 2021. The precaution was taken as a staff member recently worked at another aged care home which was identified by the Victorian Government as having a confirmed COVID-19 case.
The staff member has since returned a negative result. No staff or elders at GSH have been identified as having COVID-19 signs or symptoms.
No staff or elders at GSH have been identified to have COVID-19.
Jewish Care is presently seeking direction from the Department of Health & Human Service Victoria (DHHS) regarding altering and / or lifting the lockdown restrictions.
Jewish Care continues to actively encourage vaccination amongst elders, clients and staff.
“We were pleased to see the Victorian Government offer fast tracked access for aged care and disability workers at nominated vaccination centres across the state from tomorrow until Sunday between 9am and 4:30pm,” said Bill Appleby Chief Executive Officer.
“We are proud of our Gary Smorgon House team and our community of elders and their families in responding to this sudden precautionary lockdown”, continued Bill Appleby.
Jewish Care will continue to offer supports to all elders, taking every precaution to ensure staff and elder wellbeing.
