Hand Up Against Family Violence

Did you know that 60% of Jewish Care's community housing is occupied by victims of family violence. In the last twelve months, Jewish Care has worked with 63 families. In 46 of those cases there was serious concern for a child’s wellbeing.

Every day in Australia there are at least two Jewish families seeking protection due to family violence. Family violence does not discriminate. It occurs across all sectors of our Jewish community.

To educate and build more awareness about family violence, Jewish Care hosted an informative fundraising evening on 23 August at the Jewish Museum for over 90 guests.

The event was held specifically for the Next Gen age group who are in their mid 30's to 40's, and they heard a presentation from Marilyn Kraner, Manager of Individual and Family Support Services, about Jewish Care's Family Violence Resource Program. Marilyn spoke about how family violence affects households from all religious backgrounds and the services that Jewish Care provide for the victims of family violence.

Guests were also shown a video titled, 'Hiding Bruises - Michelle's Story', where they listened to the personal story of Michelle who explains in detail how she survived physical abuse from her partner and the help she was given by Jewish Care.

Also on display was the video to help encourage donations to Jewish Care's services that provides family violence victims with much needed care and support.
