No Place for Hate Speech

09 January 2019

Victoria is a richly vibrant state because of the hard-working individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds that have built this wonderful community. Jewish Care Victoria strongly condemns the divisive and offensive behaviour we witnessed over the weekend. There is no place for hate speech in our community.

As an organisation dedicated to the care and support of so many Holocaust Survivors, we were deeply offended to see the symbols of Nazism openly displayed; specifically, at a Jewish home for elders here in Melbourne.

It is important we be upstanders and call out such offensive displays of intolerance - our actions talk to our character and values as a country.

Fearless leadership is critical to a good society – the standard we walk past is the standard we accept. We are thankful for the bipartisan moral fortitude and unity demonstrated over the last few days.
