Elders at Jewish Care have been busy assembling gift packs for people in the Jewish community, to spread some cheer during these difficult days of isolation.
One of the Elders mentioned to a staff member that she felt helpless to do anything for others in the community who were doing it tougher than herself.
“I’m comfortable and safe in here. I have a roof over my head, don’t need to worry about a job and I have more than enough food. But there are so many people out there who are really experiencing a tough time. I wish I could do something to help,” the Elder said.
Before too long, the idea to provide gift and pamper packs to vulnerable and isolated members of the community became a reality. With the combined support from Heat Group and Erdi Group, Jewish Care received a donation of over 11,000 items to be packed by Elders and distributed to Jewish Care clients. In addition to clients, gift packs are also being given to Elders’ families and Jewish Care staff who have dedicated their time to support Elders through COVID-19 restrictions.
Making this a true community effort, was the contribution of Jewish Care volunteers who unpacked six pallets of donated gifts and assisted with the distribution of the completed packs to the community.
