Jewish Care's New CEO

Jewish Care Victoria Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

Jewish Care Victoria is excited to announce the appointment of Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly as the new Chief Executive Officer.

“The Board is delighted to welcome Professor Alan Lilly as Chief Executive Officer”, said Susie Ivany OAM, President of Jewish Care Victoria.

"I am thrilled and honoured to be joining Jewish Care as Chief Executive Officer and to be leading the organisation through the ever-present challenges and opportunities. Building on Bill Appleby’s legacy, my commitment will be to further enhance Jewish Care’s fine reputation for the high-quality care and services it provides to the community”, said Professor Lilly.

"My own values are very much aligned with those of Jewish Care and I look forward to getting to know all those who make up this vibrant organisation be they elders, clients, staff and volunteers – and to serving the Jewish Community”, continued Professor Lilly.

Lilly has had vast experience as an executive and chief executive for almost twenty years in both the public health service and private aged care organisations.

He was Chief Executive of Eastern Health for seven years, where he led significant changes in the operating and strategic direction of the organisation. There Lilly delivered an improved focus and emphasis on the values-based culture and substantial improvements in stakeholder relationships. Subsequently, as Chief Executive of BlueCross I Sapphire Care, Lilly was responsible for leading the largest residential aged care provider in Victoria.

Lilly worked extensively on matters related to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and has recently completed a number of independent reviews into COVID-19 outbreaks for the Commonwealth Department of Health.

“We are confident that Alan’s wealth of experience and engaging leadership style will reap great rewards for all at Jewish Care and the wonderful community we serve. Alan comes to us with extensive experience in the health, aged care and disability sectors in public, not-for-profit and private organisations”, said Ms Ivany.

“As we welcome Alan Lilly, we farewell Bill Appleby and sincerely thank him for his 12 years of invaluable service. Bill’s exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment and ethical stewardship have garnered immeasurable benefits for our organisation and community”, said Ms Ivany.

Additional background

Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly is currently a member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) Aged Care Advisory Group and was a member of the National Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce. He has recently been appointed to the Victorian Public Sector Residential Aged Care Expert Advisory Group and the Victorian Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity. He is a member of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards Improvement Academy and is an Adjunct Professor with Australian Catholic University.
