Jewish Care Victoria Statement on COVID-19 Residential Homes – Carnegie and Windsor
Jewish Care Victoria is working hard to safeguard the wellbeing of elders and staff across all our services during the COVID-19 crisis.
Within the last hour we have been notified that a medical practitioner supporting elders in our Carnegie and Windsor Residential Homes was at the Prahran Market on Saturday 17 July at a time which has been classified as a Tier 1 exposure site.
That medical practitioner has notified Jewish Care of his visits to several elders within the Carnegie and Windsor Residential Homes on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 July.
The medical practitioner informs us that he is fully vaccinated, completely asymptomatic and is presently isolating after immediately undergoing a COVID test. We eagerly await the results, wish him the best of health through what will be a period of 14 days quarantine and thank him for his urgent notification.
“As a result of this and in order to act with the utmost precaution, the relevant elders will be asked to isolate in their rooms and undertake a COVID test. Staff who worked closely with the medical practitioner during his visits will test and isolate”, said Chief Executive Officer, Bill Appleby.
We have been in contact with the COVID-19 Public Health Division of the Victorian Department of Health and they are supportive of this response.
Overall vaccination rates are as follows:

We are pleased to announce that at this stage all elders and staff are well and displaying no signs or symptoms of concern. Families of the impacted elders are being notified directly and provided the information they require. We trust you understand we will not be discussing specific cases generally and that these immediate steps are precautionary only.
“We continue to care and support all our elders in our Residential Homes in Carnegie and Windsor under the guidance of the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services and working with the relevant public health officials”, continued Mr Appleby. “We understand that this is a very distressing time for elders, their families and our staff. We are working tirelessly to communicate directly with our elders and will continue to keep their families and our community informed. We have deployed senior leadership to assist”. “Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our elders, staff and the community is our most important concern and we will continue to take every precaution to ensure their wellbeing”, said Mr Appleby. We understand that many members of our community may have questions or concerns. Jewish Care has established a Call Centre for enquiries and ask that you call 8517 5556 or email [email protected].
